As a concept in 2007 the launch of the Civilian Press is far from an overnight project. Artist Anthony Gonzales (aka tonymash) has been weaving through the OrangeCounty art & music scene for over a decade. Developing designs and brands for clothing companies, boutiques, record labels, album covers, corporate branding, and major music events such as hootenanny and an artwork collaboration of Kat Von D for the first annual MUSINK music and tattoo festival 2008. Looking for an outlet for his own vision and expression, the Civilian Press was born. Attracting a broad range of fans with sensual designs in hand with Dia De Los Muertos elements, the Civilian Press appeals to the alternative crowd, just as much as it has been welcomed by the urban and artisan groups. Now with the decision to go all organic with the tee shirt line and being more conscious about environmental impacts of the clothing industry, the Civilian Press is geared up to outfit the Eco-Fashion do-gooders as well.

Born behind the Orange Curtain I've been both blessed and cursed with the orange county stigma. Falling in the shadows of Los Angeles, its always interesting to see peoples reaction when they hear what I'm doing is coming from the OC. I feel I'm and old soul with new ideas and have been shaped and nurtured by my home town and have worked hard with my tight knit group of family and friends to show OC has sweet soul and solid talent.
I've been an artist as long as I can remember (if you know me, that doesn't say much). Grandma still rocks my early work on her fridge! Always interested in line art and geometric shapes I developed a great love for simple design with beautiful motion. Not knowing how to make a career out of a sketchbook I took my first graphics class at Golden West College to make flyers for my band. This open up the Graphic Design door which made me my first buck, BAM! This turned out to be a double edged sword. Somewhere down the line I dropped the passion I had for simply creating art and hustled to make rent. 10 years as a working designer has made me pretty damn good at it and has brought me far, but longing for that passion again had brought me full circle. I finally decided to do some good work for myself, at my pace, and on my terms... the Civilian Press.
